I’m ready to buy a home. Where do I start?

This is the question I get over and over again from first-time home buyers. In fact, many buyers put off looking for a home, unnecessarily, because they’re hesitant to take that first step, not knowing where to start. So, here, I will list the top 3 things you need to know to get you started looking for your home sweet home! We also encourage you to call Mega Realty.   1. Unless you’re buying your house in cash, talk to a trusted lender!!! (check out our resources page) – A lender will look at your finances and let you know what you qualify for and what we should be looking at before we even get started. This is great because you want to start looking at houses knowing exactly what it is you can afford. Your lender will also work with you to explain things you can do to boost your credit, if needed. In many cases, you can get into a home with a score of 580 or more. Do not let bad credit discourage you from your goal of home-ownership. There are many things you can do to repair your credit, sometimes within just a few months to get you on track to where you want to be. Also, check out our resources page for credit repair providers.
  2. Once we have the pre-approval letter from the lender, it’s time to go shopping! Discuss with your Realtor what it is you’re looking for, and what you want to avoid when looking for a home.
  3. Be prepared for upcoming expenses. When you are ready to offer on a home, you will most likely have some immediate expenses, including option fee, earnest money, inspection, appraisal, etc. Talk to your Realtor about what those expenses might be in your situation, so that there are no surprises!
